Another one of those "lived in Melbourne for ages and never got around to it" things. So when Andrea invited me to spend her birthday with her at the Peninsula Hot Springs in Fingal, I gladly accepted. Our very special dine and bathe package meant swanning around in the adults only Spa Dreaming Centre area. White robes on, white robes off, the robe‑wearing wanderers looked like a cult of extremely cosy ghosts.
The hot pools steam, like ancient dragons who’ve decided to retire and now spend their days judging visitors. We hopped from pool to pool even checking out the barrels. None of those cold water pools for us - we like it hot. Surrounded by nature on a warm and sunny day, it was perfect. We did eventually leave our secluded area and ventured up to the hilltop pool for the stunning views. It really is magical, a bit like a geothermal theme park run by extremely relaxed wizards.
Feeling very relaxed, it was time for lunch. I think I liked the fact that we would be dining in our bath robes. The restaurant area is lovely and with a glass of bubbles and a delicious combination plate of fish, belly pork and dahl, it was the perfect way to celebrate a very special persons birthday and I felt privileged to have gotten to enjoy it with her.
It was all over too soon, next time, more pool hopping time required. The place is really fab. It's much bigger than I expected and the facilities are great. Thanks Andrea and may the last year of your 50s be as special as you are.
