30th Tick - Visit Palacio de Viana in Cordoba

With time fast running out, it was time to revisit the list and consider some more achievable goals. OK, where haven't I been on my stops that are on the must visit one day list? So whilst in Cordoba on a hot day (20 May), I decided it was time to visit Palacio de Viana

This impressive palace, doesn't look like much from the outside - just another grand old building, but when you step inside, it's not the Palace itself that is stunning but rather the 12 gorgeous patios and the garden. Built in the 14th century, the palace was home to the last Marquis of Viana, Sophia of Lancaster. The title was a Portuguese title of Nobility and 18 Noble families went on to live there until 1980.

Inside the Palace are all the things you expect to find in one of the best preserved manor houses not only in Cordoba, but in all of Spain. Brooding paintings, art, old embossed leather furniture, decorative tiles, mosaics, dinner sets for those wild party's, an old library and of course tapestries - said of course in Sean Connery's Scottish accent. "The tapestries man, we're here to see the tapestries". Because you can't have an old castle/palace without tapestries.

But it really is the amazing patios that steal the show.  Cordoba is of course famous for its patio's and here we have 12 of the best all in one place. Each of the 12 patios represent five centuries of history and it's the perfect place to be on a hot day. Well maybe in a pool with a swim up bar and a cocktail in hand would be even more perfect, but one must get some culture sometimes.

Definitely a worthwhile visit and a tick off the list.
