14th Tick - Visit the Sky Garden

Published on 11 January 2025 at 00:03

Find a job hasn't happened, due to lack of effort (i.e. non) and therefore I have the time to tick a few things off the 60 before 60 list, but sadly, the money is lacking to tackle the big ones. Fear not Jules, there are some smaller achievable ones on here that are in London.

First stop today the Sky Garden, perched on the 35th floor of the Walkie Talkie building. I think the building is actually called 20 Fenchurch Street, but everyone calls it the Walkie Talkie building. I guess I can see why. It sort of looks a bit like an old Walkie Talkie, if you squint or are on some hallucinatory drugs. Rather surprised that I haven't been here before - especially as it's free and I do love a freebie. That's the problem though, you need to book a free ticket and they get snapped up really quickly. Snagged one a couple of weeks ago and today was the day. Sunshine and blue skies, although freezing, made for a great visit.

Up I went. The garden part is nice enough and the views are great. It was a clear day, so that certainly helped. The Shard is higher, but the views are very similar and did I mention this is FREE! I did laugh at a review I read complaining that it was freezing. Well yes, that would be because part of it is open to the outside and if it's -1 outside, it's not going to be any warmer up here. People.
