13th Tick - Ride the English Tea Bus through London

Published on 7 January 2025 at 19:31

All aboard the English Tea Bus! These cute pink buses meander around London as one sips on bubbles and tea whilst enjoying a cucumber sandwich and a scone. Very civilized darling, so on to the 60 before 60 list it went.

Decision enhanced when I spotted a Groupon voucher and could do it a bit cheaper. Do love a good deal. £35 downstairs or £43 upstairs, so not a great deal, but OK. Now I don't suppose many people choose the cheapskate downstairs option and a quick read of the reviews led me to understand that they put everyone upstairs if the bus isn't full. I couldn't imagine it being full at midday (not even afternoon tea time) on a chilly Tuesday, so risked it for the biscuit and chose the cheap arse option (saving those pennies - London is expensive and I can't be doing with looking for a temp job) and chose the downstairs option.

Bingo! Upgraded to the top deck. Abba playing in the background, it was time to jump on board. 10 "girls" and 1 man, don't mean to be sexist, but this is very much a girly thing to do. Maybe he was the stripper? Nope, just a bloke dragged along by his partner. A stripper would be fun, although he'd be wanting to hold on tight to the handrails on some of those tight corners.

Off we went. Nowhere new, but all rather lovely when you're watching London go by with a glass of prosecco in one hand and a smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich in the other. I don't even like smoked salmon, but when it comes in a cute little finger sandwich with the crusts cut off, I'm gonna eat it. Now this was serving as breakfast and lunch and as a responsible day drinker I needed to eat something. The other sandwiches included the hugely anticipated cucumber one (added cheese a bonus), an egg one and a Coronation Chicken wrap. Ah Coronation Chicken, what can I say. Delightful.

On to the scone. Team cream on top all the way for me, sorry to the Devonshire tea lot. A macaron, a little biscuit, a red velvet cupcake all washed down with prosecco and tea. Couldn't fit in the lemon slice. Must have been the smoked salmon sandwich - pushed me right over the edge. They do come around and ask if you want a little box to take home left overs.  Ummmm, no need, this little piggy had eaten all but the little lemon slice. I was tempted to ask the 2 girls in front for their cup cakes that they didn't want, but that felt a little awkward. Have you no shame Jules?

Very pleasant way to spend 90 minutes. Music and commentary good and we got to keep our fashionable cups. And a quick confession, I came home and had tea and biscuits with my downstairs Neighbour. I have become very English, although Ana is Spanish. I did not keep her cup or ask for a doggy bag, although they were very nice fancy biscuits - not just your everyday chocolate digestives. And I also must contemplate why I'm not losing these extra kilos. A delicious tick off the list.
