39th Tick - Go see Adam Ant again

Since being in the UK, I've managed to go see Adam Ant once at the Let's Rock festival and twice more a couple of years ago. Last year a new set of gigs were released, but it was while I was away so when they were postponed, I managed to grab a couple for this year.

Adam and the Ants were my fave band back in the late 70's/early 80's and 45 years later still my fave artist (sans Ants). Adam was the coolest, sexiest man in leather pants around and he applied eye liner way better than I did. In my sweaty 14 year old dreams we fell madly in love, got married and had cute kids.

I got to see them in their heyday back in 1981 at the Perth Entertainment Centre. Dressed up, complete with white stripe - I was the Ants Pantz, or at least I thought so. Saw Adam again in Melbourne in 2013 (truth be told, it wasn't great) and in 2017 (much better) as a child of the 80's trying to relive her misspent youth.

This time round, a newly released show at the Hammersmith Apollo (7 November) meant I was able to grab a 2nd row ticket. The supporting act was Toyah - another 80's favourite, so that was a bit of a bonus. And I must say, she was pretty good. But the moment the main man came on stage I was out of my seat and front row quicker than a horny teenager. 90 minutes of bopping around and singing (badly) to the classics. I like the older stuff best, but there was a bit of everything thrown in. He didn't do Ant Rap (good), he didn't do Dog eat Dog (bad). Great night, the band were tight, with two drummers providing that classic Burundi style beat.

Next up it was Basingstoke (25 November), the last show of the tour. Part of me thinks it may be his last ever. 3rd row seat this time and in the corner, so unable to go to the front, but still able to dance. Not quiet as good as the Apollo - maybe it was the sound quality, maybe he was a bit tired after a busy month, but I still loved it.

Has he still got that swagger?  Yup, still hot AF and at 71, he's still got it. Or it could just be my failing eyesight. Either way, he can leave his slippers under my bed anytime. We are the family.
