32nd Tick - Visit Casa de Pilatos in Sevilla

Published on 2 August 2025 at 22:29

Another one of those "must go there one of these days" places. Sometimes it's really hot and sometimes I'm too tired. But on this particular day it wasn't too hot (I was still tired) and the group didn't want to go to Las Setas, so I had the whole afternoon free. Right then Jules, let's go - bonus points that it's very close to our hotel in the district of Santa Cruz.

Magic sandals on (yep my Camino sandals have been dusted off), I set off. The palace of Casa de Pilatos is located in the Plaza de Pilatos, built in the 16th century, and named after the house of Pontius Pilate. After the Alcazar, this is the most beautiful palace in Sevilla, and one of the  best-preserved buildings from it's time.

As you enter, the main patio with it's fountain and statues of Roman emperors and Greek gods, is stunning. Different styles were used including, Gothic, Mudéjar and Italian Renaissance. The palace also has many marble columns and floors, long corridors, ceiling paintings, large wooden doors, mudéjar tiles (Azulejos), chapels and the beautiful Italian style garden. It's a pretty special place and I'll need to make sure I recommend it to guests.

Side note, several films have been shot here, including Knight and Day with Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise. Didn't spot anyone filming or famous.
