26th Tick - Visit the Delfin Submarine Museum

Now that I'm back in Spain and back at work (two tours down, ten to go), it's been a bit hard to get ticks off the list - especially all of those that I didn't get done while I was in London. So time to review the list and add a few things here in Spain that I've got a chance of completing. Cheating? Not really, it's my list and I can do what I like with it.

I've spent so much time here in Torrevieja over the years, that I tend to think well there's not that much touristy stuff to do here. But sometimes you just need to look a little harder. And would you look at that, there are several small museums. There is also a new information centre with friendly and helpful staff.

So armed with a few ideas, I set off to visit the Delfin S-61 a Spanish Navy submarine that was donated by the navy in 2004 and is now a museum ship here in Torrevieja. 2€ got me in and it was interesting enough having a walk through the crew quarters, officers area (not much more space than the crew), engine rooms and tiny kitchen. Two toilets and no showers. Must have been cramped and a bit whiffy down there. I can't imagine being stuck under water in one for any length of time. No on board buffet, deck games, casino or nightly entertainment. Would not recommend for a cruise. As a museum, well I can now say I visited the good sub Delfin.

There is also a Sea and Salt museum here. I've walked past it many times and never popped in. So I did. Covers a bit about the history of the town and the salt lakes that surround the area. I have been on the salt tour before and the other day I even took a walk down to the pink lake. Right then, tourist mode activated, now to keep it going.
