Having never been to Turkey, let alone Ephesus, it's somewhat ironic that I've now been twice in 2 months. 1st tick of the 60 before 60 list was to visit this place and this was achieved back on 21 October. And two months later on 20 December, I came back whilst on my tour of Turkey.
This time with Patina, 6 of our new BFF's and our guide Yousef. Unlike last time, no question on the name of our guide and no similarities to any shoe shop or store that I could think of.
On our arrival, Yousef mentioned that he had a special surprise for us. What would it be? Some Turkish Delight? Young naked Turkish men dancing at the "so-called house of pleasure" (the sign actually reads "so called house of pleasure")? None of the above. Our surprise was he'd gotten us tickets to the Ephesus Digital Experience Museum. Any skepticism as to the value was quickly set aside when we stepped inside. It's fabulous, as you get to step back in time and feel what life was like back when the grandeur of the Temple of Artemis (Greek Goddess of the Hunt) and the everyday life of the Roman Empire, was experienced. Loved it. Thank you Yousef.
After that, it was time to retrace my steps and learn a little more the place. The biggest difference? The lack of crowds! Unlike my last visit when it was a shuffle along that main pathway, this was space and not 100's of people in our photos. And cats. Lots of cats perched regally upon pillars and stones looking every bit as if they own the place. Enjoyed my 2nd visit much more and imagining it in its heyday was much easier after the museum and seeing it without the crowds.
